1955 Chevrolet Bel Air

The build in detail.

Sometimes the best builds do not start with a client at all. This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air had been sitting around Crown’s shop for a while, an old tri-five with good bones and no real plan attached to it. Rather than let it collect dust, the team decided to give it a project of its own, something eye-catching enough to prove a point about what Crown does when nobody is asking for anything specific.

The internet was full of black tri-fives. Every build site, every show, every feed had one. So Crown went looking for the opposite. A two-tone matte and gloss white exterior, a color combination almost nobody was doing, paired with a blacked-out engine and grey leather inside. If everyone else was building shadows, Crown wanted to build a ghost.

Under that white shell sits a Chevrolet 350ci small block V8, breathing through a Holley Sniper EFI system and detailed entirely in black for contrast against the paint. The stance came down on a custom lowered suspension, riding on 20-inch steelie-style wheels, with front disc brakes to bring it all back down from speed. Simple, clean, and exactly as loud as the paint needed it to be.

They called it White Abyss, and it turned heads everywhere it went, downtown Tucson included. Crown eventually took it to Barrett-Jackson, where it found a new home with a tri-five collector who understood exactly what made this one different from the rest.
