The build in detail.
A 1964 Nova was never built to be fast. It was Chevrolet’s compact economy car, cheap and forgettable, the kind of thing a family bought because it made sense. This build erased every bit of that history. Working from a Detroit Speed-based blueprint, Crown turned a car nobody ever raced into the kind of machine that embarrasses far more expensive metal at a stoplight.
The transformation starts underneath. The original subframe came out entirely, replaced by a Detroit Speed front subframe and inner fenders that turn a sixty-year-old economy car into something with genuinely modern geometry. The rear got mini-tubbed to make room for tires that would never have fit the factory sheet metal, with a custom fuel cell tucked into the space where a spare tire used to live.
Power comes from a 400 cubic inch small block breathing through Brodix aluminum heads, backed by a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual after careful back and forth over whether to keep the original automatic. It was not a small decision. Detroit Speed stainless headers clear the tight subframe by fractions of an inch, and Wilwood brakes handle everything the drivetrain can throw at them. Forgeline OE1 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber fill out those mini-tubbed rear fenders exactly the way they were meant to.
Inside, Recaro seats, a four-point harness bar, Vintage Air conditioning, and a Holley digital dash that reads like nothing from 1964. The body wears a single clean color with a contrasting rear accent panel, a small nod to the Nova’s own SS heritage. It looks like a survivor. It drives like nothing else on the road.
