1970 Chevrolet Corvette

Its owners have had this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette since it was new, bought from Champion Chevrolet in Manhattan Beach, California, and it has stayed in the family for all but a short stretch in the late 1970s, when it went to a friend for about two years before its owners bought it back. It was repainted at some point during that interval, but nothing else is believed to have changed since the day it left the dealer’s lot. That kind of continuous history is rare, and it shaped exactly what this restoration is trying to do.

The goal its owners set for Crown was specific: make the car look and drive like it just rolled out of that Manhattan Beach showroom, matched to its original factory color and trim rather than reimagined into something else. That standard is why this is a true frame-off restoration rather than a refresh. The body has been fully separated from the frame, the numbers-matching engine has been pulled and shipped out for a complete rebuild, and the original carburetor, the same one that came off the car and was carefully kept rather than replaced, is being rebuilt right alongside it.

Underneath, the frame is being cleaned and prepped for refinishing, with the control arms, suspension components, and bushings being rebuilt throughout front and rear. The transmission, driveshaft, and rear differential have come out for inspection and rebuild as well, and the interior has been completely stripped ahead of new carpet, headliner, and trim.

Every decision on this build gets measured against the same question: is this how the car actually left the factory. That discipline is slower than building something new, but it is exactly what a car with one family’s history for over fifty years deserves.
