Straight off the lot.
Straight out of 1985.

The build in detail.

Before Marty McFly ever sees a DeLorean do anything strange, he stops outside Statler Toyota in the original 1985 film and just stares. A black 4×4 pickup sits on the lot, lifted, with a roll bar and round driving lights and off-road tires, and for one quiet moment it is the single thing in the whole movie he wants most, more than to fix anything, more than to go anywhere. He never gets to drive it. This 2016 Tacoma is Crown’s answer to that.

The recreation starts with the shape. Black paint, a lifted stance on all-terrain tires, chrome step bars, and a tonneau cover over the bed all echo the proportions of the truck from the film, updated onto a platform that actually exists to buy and drive today rather than a period-correct restoration project.

The signature detail is the lights. Two round KC HiLiTES driving lights mount to the front bumper, and five more run across the roll bar, exactly the arrangement the movie truck wore. Every one of them is wired through a custom fuse box and a dedicated switch panel built into the dash, work that has to be as clean as everything else on the truck or the whole tribute falls apart under close inspection.

Underneath the styling, this is a modern Tacoma through and through. A factory-clean 4.0-liter V6 and electronic A-TRAC traction control mean none of the compromises that came with an actual 1985 pickup. It left Crown looking like it drove straight off the movie lot and running like it just left the showroom.

Under the hood, power comes from a stock Toyota 4.0L V6 with a factory-clean engine bayA-TRAC electronic traction control. The lighting system is fed by a custom fuse box and switch panel, built into the dash alongside the factory wiringKC HiLiTES round driving lights, front bumper pair.
